Catching criminals is no easy task, especially if they are working with a network of family and friends who want to keep them being caught. The one thing we can count on as fugitive hunters is that someone is going to talk, it is just a matter of time being in the right place to collect that information before the suspect hurts any innocent residents. When you are dealing with suspects who want to stay hidden however, then you have to rely on others to point you in their direction.
One of the ways I used to collect information on suspects was heading to the local prison and listening in on calls certain inmates make. I have had huge success listening to inmates talk about fugitives, then providing me clues that lead me right to their door. That was my plan with my latest fugitive, until I discovered that Securus Technologies installed a new inmate call monitoring system that would change the direction of my efforts. This system has been utilized to do the work of several officers in less time.
Securus Technologies has 1,000 employees based out of Dallas Texas who are as committed to their jobs as I am. The CEO of Securus Technologies, Richard Smith, says his entire company is dedicated to making the world safe for all. The team trained me to use the LBS software, and I decided to see how it could monitor my suspect. Within hours it detected some chatter from in the jail from an inmate who was inquiring about our suspect with his family. The best part of this call monitoring system is the inmates know we are listening, they either forget, don’t care, or just think they are talking in a way that slips under the radar.
In the past I would have had to listen to specific inmates talking and hoping they say something. When you do not know the connection of the inmate to the suspect, that can be impossible to make the connection. The new call monitoring system was able to listen to all the calls by all the inmates, and make short work of picking up unique chatter we needed to put a close to this particular case.
The call would go on to explain that the inmate knew who was housing the dangerous fugitive and could the family get the suspect a message. I was going to change the plans and deliver that message in person to the suspect. We arranged a sting operation and surprised the suspect while he was sleeping. He was reunited with his jail cell thanks to the chatter of another inmate who had no idea he was doing in his friend.
